More trials success for Stoney Bridge stallions
Wed, 24 Feb 2010

STONEY BRIDGE stallions enjoyed a good day at the Cambridge trials on Tuesday, headed by Mr. Nancho who was represented by another winner.

Nancho Bella, a two-year-old filly bred by Willow Park Ltd from the winning O'Reilly mare Jenny May, turned in a smart performance over 800m to score by three-quarters of a length for trainer Lauren Brennan.

That performance was followed later in the day by a winning effort from a two-year-old by Storming Home, who shuttled to Stoney Bridge in 2006 but was prevented from returning to New Zealand by travel restrictions put in place after the equine influenza outbreak.

The unnamed gelding is out of the Pompeii Court mare There's No Doubt, and was making his third start for trainer Shaune Ritchie. Having debuted in January, the gelding was second at Avondale earlier this month, before Tuesday's winning effort over 950m.

Another son of Storming Home, Stormpatrol, ran an excellent second earlier in the day, beaten only a neck over 800m. The two-year-old colt, trained by Mike and Paul Moroney, had made his trials debut at Cambridge in September but had not been seen out again before his return to that venue on Tuesday. He is out of the mare Dane Time, and holds an entry for the Group 1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes on April 3.

Also placed on Tuesday was a daughter of St Reims. Reima, a two-year-old filly out of Bless Shu, was making her debut in the 800m catchweight, and took third place.
