News from Stoney Bridge
Ekraar's Group 1 winning daughter Ekstreme kept her winning streak intact in impressive form on Saturday when adding the Group 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes to her already glittering resume.
Backing up just seven days after a hard run to win the Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham, Ekstreme showed just how talented she is to see off a high-class field of fillies and mares at Te Rapa on Saturday.
Ridden back in the field by Jason Waddell, deputising for the filly's usual partner Opie Bosson, Ekstreme was called on for her effort as the field swung into the home turn.
The filly made rapid headway to challenge for the lead with 200m to run, and headed her nearest rival, Dancing Jess, at the 100m mark. However that rival fought to the line, and Ekstreme showed true grit to get the better of her year-older foe to triumph by half a head.
Trainer Bryce Revell summed up his charge's talent when remarking: "She's got a big ticker - she just keeps going." Ekstreme is Ekraar's second Group 1 performer of the season, following on from Clapton who was third in the New Zealand 2,000 Guineas.
Ekstreme's victory on Saturday takes Ekraar well clear of his stud mate Storm Creek in the list of leading third crop sires in New Zealand by earnings. In addition, Ekraar can boast a winners to runners strike rate of 25%.
Ekraar was himself a top-class, ultra consistant performer, racing at the highest level for five seasons. His career was bookended by two tremendous performances, first when breaking the two-year-old track record at Goodwood in Group 3 company as a juvenile, and then when winning a Group 1 in Italy as a six-year-old.
The son of the deceased Red Ransom shuttles to Stoney Bridge Waikato from Italy where he stands under the Shadwell banner.
Ekraar stands this season for $10,000 +GST.
