News from Stoney Bridge
Ekstreme, who became the first Group 1 winner worldwide for Stoney Bridge stallion Ekraar last year, will tomorrow bid to add another top-level triumph to her tally in the Group 1 Waikato Draught Sprint at Te Rapa.
Bryce Revell's charge will face a field of 12 rivals in the $200,000 contest over 1400m. While the four-year-old has not won at that distance since December 2008, both of her last two victories have come when dropped back in trip to 1600m.
Having taken the Group 3 Lowland Stakes this time last year, Ekstreme ran creditably in Australia in the autumn before bouncing back to winning ways in New Zealand in the Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham at the beginning of December. The ultra tough mare backed up a week later in the Group 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes at Te Rapa, and will be bidding to repeat that stellar performance at the same venue tomorrow.
Ekstreme hails from the first crop of Ekraar, a Group 1 winning son of Red Ransom who stands at Stoney Bridge Waikato for $10,000. Bred by Karaka Group Ltd, the mare is a sister to the smart trial winner De'Colletage, and a half-sister to the Mr. Nancho colt Maradona who has been placed in both of his trials to date.
Ekraar will also be represented on Sunday at Pukekohe Park by Amirar, who won two of her starts earlier in the season, before finishing behind her paternal half-sister in the Cal Isuzu. The four-year-old will be aiming to bounce back from that run.
